Thank you for your interest in COVID Curricula: A 45-Day Online Music Leadership Course. By providing these resources for your students, you are not just giving them self-development opportunities, but you are showing them that even though they are not in your building, you still care about them. As you begin the implementation process, please consider the following things:
- This course is appropriate for any secondary (7-12) music student and is not just for your leadership team.
- Each unit contains a video, text, PDF worksheet, and a discussion board. You can use it all or cherry pick the parts you want your students to participate in. In totality (including the PDF worksheet), each lesson should take anywhere from 10-30 minutes. Every other Friday, there will be an activity, which will not have any instructional component. Elements can be downloaded and customized to suit your program’s needs. Use as much or as little of the unit as you are comfortable with.
- Curricula will be delivered to you every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday with the idea that you send it out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You can give your students a break on Tuesday/Thursday or have them participate in a Zoom chat or practice their instruments. We will not send materials on Thursday, April 9th or Sunday, May 24th due to the holidays.
- You can simply share the URL and share with your students or copy the contents and alter the text.
- We have created a BAND App stream for directors using this curricula to exchange ideas, ask questions and stay connected. I strongly encourage you to download the app and join the COVID-Curricula group. Share your ideas and thoughts and we will implement them into the curricula. I will be moderating this room personally.
- If you are needing an assessment piece, you can use the discussion board or PDFs to ensure participation.
- If you join late, or are missing an assignment, you can visit the lesson schedule page and access all previous lessons.
- Prior to starting your students, we recommend that you send them an email with your expectations and remind them that this is meant to be fun. With each lesson, you should also include your own two cents and encourage them to share theirs.
- I recommend sharing this with your colleagues and admin team. They would benefit from seeing that you are providing real curricula for your students.
- If you would like more information on the curricula and how to best implement it, click here to watch a recording of our informational webinar.
Again, should you have any questions, thoughts or ideas, the BAND App stream is the best place to post those. I am certainly available via phone and email as well, but you might get a quicker (and better) answer from your peers via the app.
I sincerely hope this helps in some small way. I also hope that this brings a smile to your face and a chance to interact with your students. It’s not the same as making music, but the lessons they learn through this curricula will be remembered long after they have left your classroom.
Thank you for all that you are doing for your students.
You are a true role model.
Yours in service,
Scott
